How To Prepare for A Home Inspection
The best way to ensure a Home Inspection goes smoothly is to ensure everyone is on the same page. Here are the basics.
-
The Home Inspection will take about 1 hour for every 1,000 SQFT.
-
All Utilities need to be on; this includes electrical, water, and gas.
-
They will inspect the Electrical Panel, so make sure it’s not blocked by personal items or plants and is not locked.
-
They will be inspecting the water heater and fireplace. Home Inspectors are not allowed to lite pilot lights, so make sure yours are lit.
-
The Inspector will be entering the attic, so ensure the access panel is accessible. If it’s in the closet, you may want to shift some of the hung clothing away from where the ladder will go, and insulation may fall out.
-
The Inspector will be taking hundreds of pictures. Please put away anything that you may not want in the background of a photograph.
-
The buyer will meet the Inspector at the end of the inspection to walk the property again and discuss their findings. Consider having the property in the shape you want the buyer to view it.
